November - Part 4

Christmas Ornament Marathon

This week went a little differently than normal because of a few reasons. 1. As you all know, we did Thanksgiving 2 weeks early, so while everyone is still thinking about pumpkin pie we have absolutely moved on to Christmas. 2. Rui and i went to NYC for a quick trip and went to the John Derian Christmas ornament store, our socks were knocked obviously, jaws on the ground, but unfortunately we do not have a small fortune to spend on heirloom Christmas ornaments this year. So we decided to spend the week around the kitchen table making them ourselves. This became a really exciting project that had all of our wheels turning, so perhaps in a nice change of pace, this was pretty much the only thing we did all week.

I should say here that in our house we all have an equal amount of Christmas spirit and drive to make stuff, so fully taking over the kitchen and all of our free time was absolutely no issue. But i want to say, before you start in on it, it was very involved process, time consuming, and its hard, so just yeah, thats my warning. It is not as hard as, say, hand blowing glass ornaments.. and if you’re wondering, we did talk about figuring out how to do that instead.. but decided to save that until the kids are a little older, haha. So with stuff we had left over from Halloween, a few inspo pics from Pinterest, we began a marathon of hand painted, plaster, Christmas fellas to spy on us from the tree for years to come.

As each one came to life we realized they warranted a box to live in when not on the tree so we made them a wooden crate and nestled them in. They’re all so funny you guys, i keep opening the box and laughing at them then closing them back up.
